Grenoble New Energy Trade Mission to Visit Colorado

On May 4, 5, and 6, 2011, CORA hosted a delegation from Grenoble, a major European center for new energy. The delegation will be led by Jean-Pierre Chardon, President of Tenerrdis, the French National Renewable Energy Cluster based in Grenoble.
The goals of the delegation were two-fold. First, they wanted to obtain an in-depth understanding of the new energy landscape in Colorado. Secondly, they presented information about Grenoble's world-class assets in new energy and research, including the recently approved Greelys smart grid city project.

The ultimate objective of the visit was to build the personal relationships and knowledge essential to developing joint business development and research collaboration opportunities in smart grid, smart energy management, alternative fuels and energy storage.
The participants included: the President of Tenerrdis, a professor from Grenoble's Polytechnic University and the world's leading smart grid experts, the president and the director of International Investment for AEPI, the Economic Development Agency for the Grenoble-Isere region, the president and director of Petale, one of France's largest business and innovation incubators and the Vice-President for Economic Affairs and Innovation for the Grenoble region. All our delegates attended our L'Esprit de France Gala on May 6.

On Thursday, May 5, the FACC held its First Annual Northern Colorado Business Award Dinner. The City of Fort Collins sponsored the dinner at which Sunil Cherian, CEO of Spirae, was honored for his contribution to French-American business collaboration.
Jeff Drees, President of Schneider Electric US, provided the opening remarks, and Bob Schneider, FACC President, and Virginie Ganivet, FACC Executive Director, presented Mr. Cherian with the award. About 60 guests dined on delicious fare prepared by Babette's Feast.

Schneider Electric hosted a VIP reception for the French delegation from Grenoble at the Governor's Mansion which was attended by about 50 guests. Paul Hamilton, Senior VP of Schneider Electric US, and Jean-Pierre Chardon, Senior VP of Schneider Electric France and President of Tenerrdis, spoke about the successful relationship between the two areas. Additional speakers included Bob Snyder, FACC President, Erwan Binet, VP of the Grenoble Isere County Council, and Jeff Richards, French Honorary Consul.
The Governor's Mansion provided a beautiful setting for this special reception and guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while admiring the mountain views.

International Cleantech Opportunities Focus on Grenoble, France

Panelists included: Jean-Pierre Chardon - Jean-Pierre is President of Tenerrdis, the largest of the four national centers for renewable energy. His role as President takes about one-quarter of his time - he is also Senior VP - Institutional Relations for Schneider Electric France.
Veronique Pequignat - Veronique heads the international development activity of AEPI, the economic development agency for Grenoble-Isere. She has made several visits to Colorado and is the organizer of Colorado delegations to Grenoble.
Gilles Talbotier - Gilles is the General Director of Petale, one of Franceʼ's largest innovative technology incubator focused on assisting new start up companies in the fields of software, bioscience and cleantech.

Danielle presented an overview of how Colorado companies can increase their sales opportunities in France with the assistance of government resources and how U.S. Commercial Service help Colorado-based companies enter European markets through exports. Matt provided an overview of the major industry players, clusters, research centers and universities of the Rhone-Alpes region of France.
